“MOM! Tell Robbie to get out of the bathroom, I have to straight my hair and do my makeup” Barbie shouted to her mom.

“Stop yelling like a crazy bitch, mom is not home” Barbie’s brother said getting out of the bathroom in just a towel tied up around his waist.

“DAD!” She then shouted.

“Save it sister, it’s just you and I here”. Robbie said.

“What? Where are they?” She asked confused.

“Mom forgot to buy I don’t know what, so she and dad went to the supermarket” He replied.

“She forgot to buy something? What was it? As far as I know, she had everything ready” Barbie asked again.

“I don’t know. But why are you in such a bad mood, it’s Christmas Eve, you should be all joyous” He said.

“Argh, I know it’s Christmas Eve, but I still have to straighten my hair and do my makeup” Barbie replied looking for her iron in the bathroom.

“Straighten it? Well, good luck with that” Robbie said getting out of his room with a robe and putting gel in his hair.

“What do you mean by that?” Barbie asked plugging her iron.

“There’s no electricity Einstein” Robbie replied.

“WHAT?! NO!” She yelled frustrated. “What the heck am I supposed to do now?”

“Relax, it’s still early and as far as I know, Lucy is opening today, half day I think, you can call her and make an appointment, and I think her cousin Lisa is in town, and she could do your make up” Robbie said.

“I don’t have a car” Barbie replied.

“Argh, gather your stuff and I will drop you there” Robbie indicated her.

“You’re the best” Barbie said pecking her brother on the cheek.

Barbie went to her room to put her dress in a hanger, her shoes in a bag and called Lucy to ask her for an appointment. Lucy had an hour free so she told Barbie she could take her in half an hour. Everything was getting smother already, but she still wondered what her mom had forgotten to buy, but she would sure find out later.

“See sister? When you are in a good mood, everything goes better” Robbie said parking by Lucy’s Beauty Salon.

“Ok, pick me up in two hours ok?” Barbie asked Robbie.

“I will be here, don’t worry”. Robbie replied.

It took Lucy 30 minutes to straight Barbie’s hair and Lisa took about 30 minutes to do her makeup. At the end, she looked like a real princess. She put her pink dress and her shoes and called Robbie to tell him that she was ready and waiting for him to go pick her up as they had agreed earlier, but Robbie didn’t answer until 20 minutes after. It was already 5:45 pm and Barbie was still stranded at Lucy’s and waiting for Robbie.

“What in the name of our Savior took you so long to answer the phone and then to come and pick me up” Barbie asked Robbie.

“I had to go to the airport to pick everybody up” Robbie replied.

“Is everybody here already?” Barbie asked excited.

“Yes, everybody is here, Aunt Marie and Uncle Albert with Claudette and Pierre, Aunt Celina and Uncle Frank with Mark and Lilly and you know, the rest of the family is here as well. I can’t understand why they didn’t arrive yesterday, it would have been easier, but they are finally here and that’s what really matters”. Robbie replied.

They arrived home at around 7 and since both of them were already dressed, they started greeting everybody in the house. Barbie couldn’t stop thinking about Danny and her other friends back in the UK, but was really happy to see all her cousins and family gathered there. She took Claudette and Lilly, her favorite cousins to her room to tell them about her life in the UK. She showed them the picture she had with Danny and told them everything that had to be told.

“Will you two excuse me? I’m going to call him, it’s probably 2 am in London, but they are surely still partying.” Barbie told her cousins who kept talking among themselves.

She called Danny’s place but his mom told her that he was nowhere to be seen at the moment, that he was probably in the toilet but as soon as she saw him, she would ask him to call her back. They wished each other Merry Christmas and then hung up. Barbie felt a little disappointed by not being able to talk to Danny, but had no other choice but to wait for him to call her back. At 11, everybody was called to seat at the table for dinner, and Barbie was kind of sad because she knew it was already 6 am in London and Danny hadn’t called her. After dinner everybody gathered around the Christmas tree ready to start opening presents. They gave out their presents and wished the best.

“Can I have everybody’s attention please?” Barbie’s dad said calling everybody’s attention. “Barbie, could you please come here dear?”

“What is it dad?” She asked confused.

“Well honey, you got your presents already right?” He asked her.

“Erm…yes daddy” She replied thinking about her letter.

“Well honey, your mom, your brother and I want to tell you that we are very proud of the hard work you have done and to congratulate you for the scholarships you got” Barbie’s dad continued. “But there’s another present you haven’t opened yet”

Barbie was confused. Her dad had given her new clothes, her mom got her shoes and Robbie had given her purses and the rest of her family gave her jewelry and even a new piano, so she thought there was nothing else that she could have wanted.

“Robbie, could you please bring the other box?” Barbie’s dad asked Robbie.

“Sure dad” Robbie replied.

Pierre and Mark, Barbie’s cousins, helped Robbie to drag the other box from the kitchen to the center of the living room.

“Honey, we know that you are very grateful with all of us for giving you all those presents, but we also know that there was just one thing that would totally make you happy this Christmas” Barbie’s mom said.

Barbie had no idea what her mom was talking about but still approached to the big box and started taking the wrapping paper off the box, while everybody started asking her to just rip it off. She felt even more uneasy and when she opened the top of the box, she saw a lot of newspapers made into balls, until…

“Surprise!” Danny jumped from the box making Barbie scream.

“OMG! Danny!” Her eyes filled with tears, she only hugged him.

“Babe, I told you there was no way I was going to let you get away from me” Danny said also hugging her.

“You knew about this?” Barbie asked her family. They only nodded with tears in their eyes.

The whole electricity thing was just a trick to get her out of the house so they could bring Danny in. Her parents had left in the morning to go and pick him up and the rest of the family was in town since two days ago, but she didn’t know. Barbie’s dad was the one who came up with the idea of flying Danny over to the US, as soon as he got Barbie’s Christmas letter. There was no human power that could separate those two. They made it to the morning and watched the sunrise together, but since neither of them were superheroes, they had to go to sleep, but not until after opening the presents Danny had brought Barbie. Even Tom, Harry, Dougie, Cynthia, Frida and Andi had sent her some presents as well. A week later, Danny and Barbie were taken to the airport by her family since they had to be back in London for New Year.

“Please Danny, take care of her as you would take care of your own daughter, would you?” Barbie’s dad Danny asked.

“With all my heart Mr. James, I will and thanks for everything. I owe you my own life” Danny said shaking Barbie’s dad’s hand.

“Call me when you get there” Barbie’s mom asked her.

“I will mom, don’t worry, we’ll be fine” Barbie said.

“Thanks for everything Robbie” Danny said shaking his brother-in-law’s hand.

“Thanks for the best Christmas ever dad.” Barbie said hugging him.

“Take care Red, and call us when you are there” He said.

Soon after, they were called to board their plane.

“Babe, there’s something I have to tell you…” Danny started saying but stopped when Barbie put her index finger on his lips.

“Shh. I know, don’t ruin this. I already know and rather not think or talk about it anymore. Past is past” Barbie said smiling.

“What? You know about…” Danny tried to say but Barbie stopped him again.

“About Diana? Yes I know.” She replied.

“But how?” He asked confused.

“She called me Danny, couple of days ago, and she told me everything. At first I got mad at you for not telling me…but then I realized that you were as scared of losing me as I was of losing you. It’s almost New Year. Let’s start again. Fresh start. Let’s leave the past behind us and try again.” Barbie said leaving Danny speechless. All he could think of was how stupid he had been and how he was about to lose such a wonderful girl like Barbie.

“You are not mad?” Was all Danny could manage to ask.

“Danny, if I got mad at you every time a girl approaches you and try to seduce you, I would be old by now full of wrinkles and white hair. Like I said, let’s bury the past behind us and move on with our lives and our love”.

Once said all this, they hugged each other, then kissed and finally fell asleep. They had a very long trip ahead of them and they had to be well rested for when they saw their friends back HOME.

ALMOST TWO YEARS LATER

“Hey I have a surprise for you babe.” Barbie said kissing Danny on the lips.

“What is it, I love surprises” Danny said with a big smile. “And I also have a surprise for you, I guess”

“Really? What is it?” Barbie asked excited.

“You go first” Danny said.

“Well, Cynthia sold the house.” Barbie replied

“Uh, and what’s the surprise in it?” Danny asked confused.

“Did you already know? We agreed to tell you guys at the same time, did she already tell Tom and he told you?”.

“No, what I mean is simple baby, what’s the surprise in selling the house? Didn’t you barely remodel it?” Danny asked confused.

“Well, we needed a more modern and spacious place for us four and Cynthia found a beautiful house near downtown London, besides Andi’s dad bought our place to build a shelter for the elderly.” Barbie replied.

“And…?” Danny asked.

“Well, I’m transferring”. Barbie said.

“Danny’s grin faded into a worried look. Last time he heard the word “transfer” was when Barbie was planning to get her scholarships transferred back to the US. “Are you going back to the States?”

“No silly, I’m going to the University of London in downtown London, that way we can see each other more often and we don’t have to drive for that long to see each other, except when you want to go visit your mum.” Barbie replied.

“Ooohhh, that’s great baby, I did not expect that, but I’m glad you guys are moving closer to us, sorry that may sound a little bit selfish.” Danny said.

“Don’t worry, I fully understand that, I mean we all do, after all, we can go to college in London while you can’t just move your recording studios to a smaller town.” Barbie said. “Ok, you said you had a surprise for me, what is it?”

“Well, Barbie, we have been dating for almost eight months, so I was…wondering…I…” Danny said nervous.

“Danny, what is it?” Barbie asked.

“Would you move out with me?” Danny asked.
